Operation Tigger - Friday 12th October 2012

On Friday the 12th October ChiBAC and Sussex Police ran a joint drug dog operation, using K9 deployment, paid for by ChiBAC thanks to funding from the BID.

The operation was a success, with only one male found in possession of cannabis and there were no other indications from the dogs.  The operation consisted of both proactive and passive searches; proactive being where venues are searched and passive where the dog targets people.

The police were split into four uniformed officers and two undercover officers acted as spotters. The operation began early in the evening and acted as a deterrent for the remainder of the evening. We plan to do more of these in the future as it was so successful.

Chichester wins SILVER in Britain in Bloom!

We take pride in our city that punches well above its weight; historically, culturally, aesthetically and in our business and retail offerings. And we have achieved yet another accolade - the silver award of Britain in Bloom!

We have collected a range of In Bloom awards over the years, the most recent of which was Gold in this year's South & South East In Bloom awards, so this is a happy addition to our family of awards!

Well done, everyone!

Christmas Festivities 2012 - how the plans affect you

We aim to be voted one of the best Christmas Shopping destinations this year, as we were in 2009, but we need your collective help to do it!  If Chichester is going to “punch above its weight” as a Christmas destination, we all need to work together.

This is what we've got planned:

Friday 23rd November  - Window Competition Judging

  • All businesses entering will be listed in the Chichester Christmas Festivities Leaflet (50,000 print run) to encourage visitors and customers to look for and find you (– this is not restricted ground floor)
  • Deadline for entries is Friday 12th October 2012 to meet print deadlines for the leaflet
  • Entry forms available from bid office at 82 North Street

Saturday 24th November - Christmas Festivities 9.00am – 4.00pm

Street entertainment and activities will take place throughout the day - We are trying to source an attraction for South Street.

  • We ask you to give offers and promotions, tasters and encourage repeat custom
  • We ask you to email info@chichesterbid.org.uk, to tell us what your offers, promotions and tasters are so that we can promote them on our website and provide hyperlinks to your websites (don’t forget to tell us your website addresses)
  • We ask you to dress up and get into the spirit!

Saturday 24th November - Christmas Festivities 4.00pm – 8.00pm

We have applied to have West and South Streets closed until 8.00pm and are working with Stagecoach to ensure this runs smoothly.

Late Night Shopping
We have historically brought up to 75,000 people in to the City for the Light Switch On as you close for business for the day.  This year, we ask you to stay open until 8.00pm so that we can maximise and you can benefit from the crowds coming for the Light Switch On event

Grand Finale
We will turn on the lights at 7.00pm with a grand firework display, sponsored by John Lewis at Home.

Late Night Shopping Thursday 6th, 13th and 20th December

We will be arranging small scale entertainment and activities and heavily promoting the City as a late night shopping destination and we ask you to stay open until 8.00pm

Chichester Christmas Market - 8th – 16th December

We will be heavily marketing the Chichester Christmas Market to the coach travel trade industry.

  • We ask you to use the market to encourage people in to your business
  • If you want to carry out any promotional activities during this event please email info@chichesterccp.org.uk to let us know what you plan to do

Christmas Trees!

We are extending the Christmas Lights to Southgate to the railway line; Eastgate and into St Pancras, The Hornet and Market Road; Cooper Street; extensions to Crane Street and St Martins; Little London and the middle of West Street. If you feel there are any gaps in this first year, please let us know so that we can “fill” them next year.

Some of you may wish to purchase Christmas Trees to supplement the Christmas Lights. These are £80 each to include putting up, taking down, tree and lights.

  • Forms are available at the BID office at 82 North Street - please send it with a cheque for the correct money to Chichester Guitars 3 Guildhall Street Chichester PO19 1NJ
  • Cheques should be made payable to A Kent
  • Deadline for ordering trees is 26th October 2012

Lastly...

Does anyone have a famous friend that might like to switch the lights on as a favour?!  Please let us know!

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to call Kim on 01243 773263 or email info@chichesterbid.org.uk

We look forward to working together with you this Christmas.

CHICHESTER SWITCHES ON FOR CHRISTMAS: CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON EVENT - 24 November

Christmas 2012 promises the best Switch-on event yet!

Christmas 2012 promises the best Switch-on event yet!

Chichester City Centre Partnership is managing the Christmas Lights Switch on event, in conjunction with Chichester Chamber of Commerce and the day promises something for everyone, encouraging shoppers and visitors to get into the Christmas spirit.

Throughout the day, entertainment will take place in the main streets, including Mr Alexander’s Travelling Show, Dan the Hat and Nick Stein, who will please and delight crowds with tricks, juggling and amazing feats of magic. Musical interludes include The Rock Choir, Petworth Band and various school choirs with traditional Christmas carols. Chichester streets will be filled with stilt walkers, musicians, local stalls offering mince pies, sweet treats, Christmas Wreaths and mulled wine. Father Christmas will also be paying us a visit for the day with the Chichester Lions, taking children’s orders for Christmas Day presents.

From 4pm, the City centre will be closed to traffic until 8.00pm for hassle free late night shopping, with the Christmas lights being switched on from West Street, outside the Cathedral, at 7.00pm. A grand firework display and music from Spirit FM will continue afterwards as shops stay open for business, for shoppers to continue working through their Christmas lists.

Many shops in the City Centre will be offering discounts and treats, with staff dressed up in the Christmas Spirit and all entrants of the Christmas Shop Window Competition will be listed on www.chichesterbid.co.uk and in the Christmas Festivities leaflet, available to visitors and shoppers in advance.

More information will be unveiled about the Event over the next few weeks - so keep an eye out for updates on our blog!
